A GOOD YEAR FOR BROMMA
Full year summary and Q4 details
Sales for Bromma grew by 12% in 2015 which must be considered as an excellent result considering the market conditions. Sales and order intake were well distributed geographically and in-line with market size and expected growth. The company market position is maintained at a very high market share in general with geographical variations. Bromma was specifically successful on the North American market in 2015 with very high market shares.
Order intake in Q4 slowed down marginally compared to the first three quarters but is still on a good level.
“The strong development for our Yard spreaders previously reported continued in the second half of the year”, says Vikram Raman, Commercial Director at Bromma. “Our All-electric Yard spreaders represents a majority of the orders, often used in automated terminals. This is highlighted by the order to deliver the spreaders for the yard cranes in Jebel Ali T4”’ he continues.
In addition to the orders reported from 4th quarter below a major order - not previously reported - was received in September. DPW placed orders for 37 YTS45E all-electric separating twin yard spreaders for their T4 terminal and an additional 13 YTS45E for their T2 terminal in Dubai. These spreaders will be equipped with Brommas load sensing system for container weighing.
“The ‘weight-verification train’ for terminals is about to leave the station but there are very few people on-board”, comments Lars Meurling, Marketing Director. “Offering weight verification services to the shippers is an excellent business opportunity for the terminals but perhaps also a necessity for the logistic chain to work well after July 1” he continues. “Our twistlock based load sensing system is an excellent option for terminals who want to implement a weighing system. The accuracy of our system is high but not as high as the specification of a weigh bridge. But when a weigh bridge is used, the process to calculate the actual container weight adds inaccuracies which in most cases adds up to an inaccuracy higher than what we are achieving with our system. This is something the national regulatory bodies must be made aware of in order not to make decision based on misperceptions”, Meurling adds.

July 1, 2016 is rapidly approaching. Is the industry ready for handling the requirement to verify container weight?
The IMO legislation on verification of container weight will come into force in July 2016. Even though the responsibility for verifying the weight is with the shippers, it provides an interesting business opportunity for container terminals to offer weighing services to the shippers. Solutions that can weigh the containers without affecting cycle times and influencing the logistic flows in the terminal exist. Brommas Weight Verification system with load sensors mounted on the spreader twistlocks offers such a solution and the interest for this technology is steadily increasing.
