Bromma releases new spreader based camera platform Hawkeye

In conjunction with TOC Europe Bromma releases the new spreader based camera platform Hawkeye.

Bromma Hawkeye is a platform of different camera configurations prepared and validated for different applications and for installation on all kinds of spreaders. The cameras generate video streams that can be used as-is on an operator display or further processed through additional Hawkeye Applications, such as Hawkeye OCR (Optical Character Recognition). Cameras have over the past few years been installed and used in yard cranes and especially often in the gentle operation of automatic stacking cranes. Hawkeye stretches the application area of cameras significantly as the design and validation has been focused on the harsh environment of a STS crane spreader.

A significant part of the development of Hawkeye has been to identify how to mount cameras on a spreader. Protection of the cameras from impacts as well as methods for reduction of shock and vibration have been developed and verified. Depending on the specific need and functionality the spreaders will be equipped with a suitable configuration of cameras. A setup for Hawkeye OCR on a spreader capable of twin-20 lifting will for instance include four cameras symmetrically installed under the main beam of the spreader.

The first two application introduced are Hawkeye Streaming and Hawkeye OCR

Hawkeye Streaming is the basic application of transmitting the video signal(s) to the crane cabin and display the stream(s) on a monitor for driver aid. A specific application of this is a centrally mounted camera providing a real-time picture under the center of a twin-lift spreader giving the driver additional help to see when two 20 foot containers are being lifted in twin-mode.

Hawkeye OCR is a spreader based character recognition system for STS and Yard spreaders. In addition to the cameras, there is also a powerful computer processing the video signal to convert it to a character string to be sent to the crane cabin or to other systems.
