Capture every container ID, automatically

Hawkeye OCR is a camera system mounted directly on your spreader. It reads each container’s unique ID during the normal handling cycle – no manual scanning, no added steps.

Mounted on the spreader, not the crane

Unlike traditional crane-mounted OCR portals, Hawkeye OCR’s cameras and processing unit sit directly on the spreader frame. That means the system travels with every lift, on every piece of equipment it’s fitted to — STS, RTG, RMG, and mobile harbor cranes alike. Because recognition happens the moment the spreader engages the container, the ID is confirmed seconds into the lift — well before the container reaches the quay or the stack.

OCR camers

Mounted at each end of the spreader frame, angled to capture the container's top-corner ID markings on every lift.

Protective housing

Components are sealed and shock-rated for continuous outdoor operation in terminal conditions.

Video Processing Unit

Mounted centrally on the spreader, runs the recognition engine and handles the data link to your TOS.

Process

From lift to system, in seconds

The cameras capture the container roof as the spreader lands. The onboard recognition engine — built on deep learning and trained on real container markings — reads the ID with up to 97% accuracy, even with worn paint or low light. The verified ID is passed to your TOS or crane control system over standard Profibus, Profinet, or Modbus/TCP interfaces, so a mismatch can be flagged before the lift is even finished.

Spreader lands on container

Cameras trigger automatically — no operator action.

ID recognized on-board

Up to 97% accuracy, real-world conditions included.

Send data to your TOS

Standard protocols, no integration overhead.

Flag mismatched containers early

Before the move is even complete.

Where it's put to work

One system, fitted across your fleet

STS & quayside

Every container checked in and out by ID during vessel discharge and loading — wrong lifts caught before they happen.

Yard operations

Stack integrity maintained automatically. Every move logged against the correct ID, keeping your inventory accurate.

Why spreader-mounted OCR

Traditional crane-mounted OCR portals require dedicated gantry infrastructure — a significant cost, and one that’s fixed to a single crane. Hawkeye OCR is built into the spreader instead, so it moves with the equipment and can be retrofitted to any existing Bromma spreader without new structural work.

The result is a system that costs a fraction of a traditional portal OCR installation, while reaching every crane and CHE type it’s fitted to — not just the ones with gate infrastructure already in place.
