The word “genuine” means something specific – actually produced by the original source. For Bromma, that means parts that were designed for our spreaders, tested against our standards, and verified to perform the way the equipment was built to perform. It is not a complicated idea. But it has real consequences in practice.
What the data shows
The twistlock pin is one of the most frequently replaced components in a crane spreader. Four pins carry the full container load on every lift, which means they are subject to fatigue — and they have a finite lifespan. Knowing how long that lifespan actually is matters.
We ran a long-term fatigue test in our own laboratory to find out. Using a cyclic load of 25MT, we tested 33 pins to failure across two of our current suppliers and one third-party alternative available on the market.

Genuine Bromma pins averaged around 930,000 stress cycles before failure. The non-genuine copy averaged around 200,000 — and notably, it failed before reaching the recommended replacement interval.
That last point is the important one. Our maintenance schedules are built around genuine components. The replacement intervals assume a part that will comfortably exceed them. When a non-genuine part fails before that interval, there is no scheduled opportunity to catch it.

What it means for day-to-day operations
Port operators and maintenance teams generally have the same priorities: keeping equipment running, managing costs, ensuring safety, and reducing environmental impact where possible. Genuine parts contribute to all of these in a steady and measurable way.
Equipment maintained with genuine parts behaves predictably. Maintenance schedules stay valid. Replacement intervals remain reliable. There are fewer unknowns to manage.
From a cost perspective, a part that lasts four times longer with a known replacement schedule is easier to budget for than one with an uncertain lifespan. Unplanned downtime is rarely cheap.
On sustainability, longer-lasting parts mean fewer replacements, less material consumption, and fewer shipments over the life of the equipment — repairing and maintaining rather than replacing is the more sustainable path in most cases.
